Please help, I have no sound on a Win 2000, P3, old Gateway built machine, purchase from a Third Party store. I want to know how can I solve my sound issue. Is there any proprietary software without opening the Computer, pulling the FCC number and hope and pray this will work. All of the drivers are integrated on the motherboard. Please is there any free software to assist me to find out about my sound card?

Look at the back of your computer. If the audio plug(s) are on the main I/O shield, then you need a driver for the motherboard. If the audio plug(s) coming from the PCI slots, you probably have a third party card. In any case, open "My computer" and then right click and go to properties. From there you should be able to look at the hardware and see what you have. Once you know the card maker, you can go looking for drivers. (Don't forget to look and see if there are any drivers installed at all!)
