Yet more proof that it seldom turns out all that well when a delusional, wannabe do-gooder decides to take the law into his own hands.
Case in point: authorities say a man accused of injuring a City of Clearwater (Florida) worker in a hit-and-run crash told investigators he thought the worker was actually a terrorist, possibly of Middle Eastern descent, and that he wanted to kill him.
Gerald Christopher Prebe, 35, was originally charged with aggravated battery with a motor vehicle. But police later raised that to attempted murder after interviewing the warped vigilante, according to the St. Petersburg Times.
For some reason, Prebe thought that 53-year-old Terry Butler, a public services technician with Clearwater’s traffic engineering department, was a terrorist. But instead of calling the cops (or for that matter, Homeland Security), Prebe ironically embraced terrorism himself by using his car as a weapon against Butler.
Police haven’t released specifics about what Prebe said when interviewed, but according to initial reports broadcast over the police scanner, someone in Prebe's vehicle yelled a racial slur at Butler before he was struck. (Prebe is white; Butler is black and is not of Middle Eastern descent.)

Butler had just finished painting stripes on a nearby road and was on his break when he was hit. Butler was outside his GMC pickup truck, which was stopped in the road, and was walking back to it when Prebe accelerated toward him in his 2001 Nissan pickup. According to police, Prebe sideswiped Butler’s truck and hit Butler, throwing him about 20 feet from the point of impact. Butler was taken by ambulance to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with non-life-threatening injuries.
There’s no indication that Butler and Prebe know each other, although they do live in the same neighbourhood.
In any event, here’s hoping that Butler makes a full recovery from his injuries. Here’s also hopping that once Prebe gets out of jail, he’ll understand that the first strategy used by rational people when it comes to the War on Terror involves targeting bona fide terrorists – not city employees.

The driver needs to spend time in jail, 5-10 years? Damn.. what's the risk of him going nuttier in there? I frown to think of the possibilities of him coming out and attempting to kill more people. I fail to see him reentering society safely.

He needs a psychologist.

I pose a question. Should the driver ever be allowed to drive again?

Prebe is obviously a dangerous crazy person who should be behind bars, but I don't see anything in the article that says he did it because the guy "looked like a terrorist". It says he thought the guy was a terrorist". You're making the assumption that he thought it because of the way the guy looked, but the article also said they lived in the same neighborhood so there could be other reasons why he thought so.

Either way, attempted murder seems like an appropriate charge, the guy should go away for a long time.

The driver should definitely be put away for a good long time for attempted murder, and needs to have a psychiatric assessment.

What would be the point? You're not allowed to generalize ever remember? If you can't argue that Islam is the most violent religion because of individual terrorist incidents why should you be able to argue your political opponents are the most hateful based on one incident in this case? But you're probably a hypocrite so just come out and say that Republicans and conservatives are hateful murderers.

Do you ever have arguments? Ever?

You didn't own me on anything. In fact I presented you with arguments and you ignored them and kept repeating an argument that could be used to support slavery. Here, I'm pointing out your obvious hypocrisy and all you can do is deflect. Why don't you stop being a coward and tell us what you think this guy's political affiliation is? And then you can explain how that's not an unfair generalization. :)
