Ok, here's where I am. Recently, I installed the Omega Drivers based on Cat 5.9, but I found that there was a bug with them that would cause crashing when I minimized NWN, which is really all that I've been playing recently. So, I decided to revert to Cat 5.8 in hopes of fixing this. The install went fine, but then on the restart to "apply changes," my PC wouldn't boot properly. It goes into a loop between a DOS style screen that says "We're sorry for the inconveinence, but Windows did not start properly, blah blah blah," and then mentions a few boot options, and gives you the opportunity to select one. Unfortunately, for reasons unknown to me, I'm unable to select one because this screen won't respond to my keyboard. After that screen, which automatically selects "Load Windows normally," I see the Windows loading screen, and then my PC hangs for a couple seconds and I see a blue screen with white text on it which disappears in a fraction of a second, so I'm unable to tell what it says. From there, the PC seems to "restart" again, and the loop continues. Additionally, I don't seem able to F8 into Safe Mode at any time during this process.
I think what caused the problem was that I should have used Driver Cleaner or something similar before installing the old Cats over the new, but I'm not very driver savvy either, so just a guess.
I've tried entering safe mode, entering the BIOS, using boot discs, anything to at least stop it from continuing that loop, but I'm getting nowhere. It doesn't seem to read floppies as boot options, and to boot from a CD, I need to press a key; and it doesn't seem to be responding to my keyboard at anytime during the boot process practically. I currently have the Logitech Wireless MX Duo (KB + Mouse), and I've no reason to think it's the signal or anything, it just seems like all the lights in the receiver turn off and it's nonresponsive during the whole boot. I unfortunately don't have my original XP Disc, just for the record.
Any ideas? I'll be glad to elaborate on anything if it would help.
