5 year old survives. Searched but didn't see it on OT.
A deadly high-speed chase in Iowa caught on camera shows the split-second moment a driver slammed into a parked cop cruiser at about 130 mph.
The cruiser happened to be empty, but that wasn’t the most astonishing part of the accident early Friday: The driver’s 5-year-old son was sitting in the back seat ... and survived.
“‘Miraculous’ is the word I would use to describe it,” Indianola Detective Sgt. Brian Sher told the Des Moines Register.
The Volkswagen Passat’s driver, Jeremiah Eldon Johnson, was a former Iraq and Afghan war veteran and was described by authorities as “suicidal and homicidal.” The 33-year-old Des Moines man had been on the run after taking the boy from his mother.
Johnson’ son, Johnnathen, was found crying on the floor of the car underneath a pile of clothes, the Register reported Saturday. Police couldn’t immediately say how he cheated death.
He was taken to the hospital and was in stable condition, police said.

Police car, now you see it, now you don't.

Seems like the car had time to crumple and then was pushing the police cruiser to decelerate. If it had been a 130MPH / Police Cruiser / Wall situation the kid would have died too. Kid may still have serious concussion and brain damage though...

Wow.

I'm not a Christian anymore, but events like this make me want to go back.

God's grace is indeed amazing and full of love.

Another severe PTSD case? We seem to have a rash of these, I'm guessing we're not remotely done yet either. We had the guy who snapped and killed Chris Kyle not far from where I live. Given that some of those guys were sent back 3,4,5, or even 6 or more times to live on edge because of ambushes, IEDs, etc, we're probably in for a generation of PTSD cases and more homeless vets. I remember growing up in the 80s and seeing tons of Vietnam vets on the street. Probably most of those guys have died by now, I think being homeless makes you have a significantly reduced lifespan : death from exposure, disease, murder, etc are all probably stratospherically higher, combined with terrible nutrition and hygiene.

Anyway, back to this guy. Horrible that he did this, and he is ultimately responsible, but we should really have better programs in place for our veterans. We're really lucky he didn't get his kid or a cop or other motorist killed with his insanity. This is probably just the tip of the iceberg. I know a couple of these kinds of guys myself. Had fiancees/wives/etc, went off to deployments, come home to find that she's sleeping with a 'friend' or has simply left town, sometimes with their son or daughter. Combine that with the difficulty of finding decent employment, bills that have stacked up, lack of medical and mental health care, and bam, you're bound to have people snapping.

It's a shite state of affairs, tommay! And all the fresh air in the world won't make any fucking difference!

Stop trolling. I saw a friend pull the trigger of a loaded shotgun on himself when we were kids. It misfired. Every time I tell myself that God doesn't exist I remember that day.

Automotive engineers are amazing and full of love. If the invisible man in the sky gave a shit he would have kept the kid out of the car in the first place.

Crumple zones > fairy tales.

God shouldn't have let the maniac take the 5-year-old in the first place.

Started watching the video and was thinking to myself, that cop better step away from that car.

It's a VW, no mistery here.

Anyway this is why wars are bad. Think about it when you vote next time.

And let's not forget about the children dying of famine in third world countries. God "saves" one child but let's thousands of others die. What a wonderful and loving God.

I swear, people are f@cking retarded.

Me too. Looks like he walked away just in time. Wonder if it was lucky, or if, since he was looking in the right direction, he saw it coming. He walked away pretty slowly for someone who saw the car coming.
