Driver Issue - SM Bus Controller?

When I try to install the Soundmax software for my onboard audio I get an error at the end saying the driver wasn't installed. After doing this a few times, I checked and I find an device in the device manager without any drivers.

I've tried browsing through the directories included in the soundmax download but can't find the proper drivers. I give Windows the folder in the driver update window and it doesn't find it. My first guess is I'm not looking in the wrong place.

By the way, I'm on an Asus P4P800 Deluxe if that matters.

The Intel driver should also be on the CD that came with the motherboard.
You should re-install Windows SP2 after tou install the Intel drivers.

Ok, I installed that chipset utility, now what do I do?

All the drivers seem to be in their right places, but I'm not getting any audio from my rear speakers, which is why I initially started looking at this issue. I should have also told you that previously, sound was working, just not through the rear speakers. I have checked all the connections and used the tool to test each speaker seperately and I'm just not getting any audio through it. Anyone have any advice?

I tried SP2 when it first came out but I kept getting some sort of errors with it and had to uninstall it, which is why I haven't tried it again.

is that an nforce mobo? the reason i ask is that on mine there is a SMBUS driver like you are saying. if so what driver version you trying to install and maybe try here

He said he's using P4P800 Dlx. That sounds like an Intel board, not nforce.

Try installing the sound drivers manually instead of clicking on the setup (extract the setup file).
