driver install

I'm trying to install my new Leadtek 6600GT. I removed the old drivers using add/remove programs, restarted and installed new drivers by running the install off the CD as recomemnded in the manual. I then restarted again and this time let WINXP go through the found new hardware wizard. It seemed to find my new drivers, but at the end I got a message "data is invalid" and the drivers don't work. I had this very same problem when I tried to install a new sound card recently and never did figure it out. Short of a fresh install of Windows, are there any ideas?
Thanks, all.

Whenever windows detects any new hardware, always cancel the procedure.

Download the latest and greatest forceware/detonator and use this .exe to install.

Goodluck.

I downloaded 66.93 drivers from NVIDEA and installed them into a folder on my C drive. I then execute the new hardware wizard and point it to the folder with the drivers I just downloaded. When it runs, I still end up with a message saying the hardware couldn't be installed because "the data is invalid".

Is there a way to instll drivers without using the find new hardware wizard?

I went through the exact same thing trying to install a sound card awhile back and nothing I did ever got past the data is invalid message. I've installed hardware before without issues, there's something else wrong here. I don't know much about registry edits, but could there be something interfering with these hardware installs. This WINXP instll is now several years old.
