I received some great help here in the past, so here goes again.

When updating / installing new drivers on my system I'm receiving the following error message: 'Error 1324: The path My Documents contains an invalid character'. The install is the aborted. This happens during the setup of the Install Shield.

This is happenning when I try to update my Voodoo 3/2K drivers (I can load the drivers from the CD, but fail when trying to update using drivers downloaded from the Web). I'm also unable to install the drivers for my Logitech Force JS.

I've tried everything I can think of including searching the MS Knowledge DB, but cannot find anything that specifically addresses my problem.

My theory. I have the OS (MS Millenium) installed on C. All my programs and data are on D. When I set this up, I deleted the 'My Document' folder created during the OS install on C, and made a new 'My Documents' folder on D. I think I lost something in the transistion.

Does anyone have any suggestions for reestablishing the correct path without reinstalling the OS (I will reinstall if necessary, just hoping to avoid).

My System:
OS: MS Millenium
AMD K6-3/450+
256MG Kingston Value Ram (SDRAM 133)
3DFx Voodoo 3/2K
Turtle Beach Sound Card (not sure of model)
Generic 10/100 NIC

Thanks for your help.

I'm not trying to be a SmartA$$ but Windows ME has got to be the WORST OS ever made. I honestly think that upgrading to Windows 2000 or Windows XP would solve more problems than you think. You will find more support for those OS' and more driver updates for the hardware you have.

In regards to your problem, you are correct that the My documents folder you deleted did contain driver files. But I am curious to know why you are not able to update other drivers whether they are from the web or from CD.

If you find a solution to this, please let us know. And if you reinstall your OS, please please use anything else than Windows ME. Even if it's Windows 98se, that would be better.

Good Luck!
