driver heat

i dont know if any of you noticed or not.. but let me explain whats going on

I have a BFG6800 GT OC with standard fan, the temp is usually 52-56 c depending if i OC more its about 56, ok so i loaded up the new 71 drivers and it went to 65c with NO OVERCLOCKING anymore.. now dont know if you guys know this or not.. but what the hell is going on!

It's a pretty well-known bug in the drivers...for whatever reason, overclocking slightly beyond 400MHz (I think I do 402) will cause the temperatures to return to their normal levels 🙂

It's actually a bug noted in the release notes.

It makes the 6800 series read about 20% higher temperatures.

Yeah, if you don't want to OC your card, then just ignore it. I do. I know for a fact that it isn't running as hot as reported as I did some testing with my dad's equipment. The drivers, for me at least, report about 12c higher on BOTH idle and load than they do over a "real" temp reading. Just don't worry about it.
