Nex question: I have an old Pacckard Bell monitor (manuf. 1990) with the model # PB 8542 VG. When you boot the computer up everything is fine until windows starts (i.e. you can go in bios etc...), then the monitor goes all crazy. I figure it's because there is a driver for a different monitor and the PB is not PnP. Any suggestions?

Most likely your refresh rate is too high for the monitor to handle. Boot into SAFE MODE and kick it down a few notches. Keep trying till you find the setting that works.
