I have an Acer Aspier 1660, it has a Pioneer DVR-K13a

When I went to burn a CD todate the drive was gone and I got error messages. I looked on Acer's site and on Pioneers and cant find anything to help me out. Where can I get this drive, I dont think I have the cd's that came with my laptop.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Sure sounds like the drive is dead to me. The CDROM "driver" for XP just works, you don't need a special driver. I would try this:

1) Remove the drive and start Windows
2) Shutdown, put the drive back in, start windows and pray.

Find the following registry key...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

See if you have any upper or lower filter values. If you do, backup then delete them. Be sure the key above is exact before you do this. If not, abort. Reboot and see if it the drive works.

If not, check for the above filter keys again, delete the device from device manager and reboot. If it doesn't immediately sort itself out well enough to give you basic CDrom functionality, replace the drive.
