Is that how you got here, searching her name and/or her story?

That's absolutely brutal man, I can't imagine imagine what that's like, having something so horrific occur in front of you. My condolences to you and yours.

Have you ever since talked to this "uncle" of yours? Do you feel whatever the punishment was fit the crime?

I was the 2 year olds older brother I was playing with her in the driveway when our ‘uncle’ flew in and hit her out mom and family was on the porch talking. So we had adult supervision we didn’t have a big yard nor were we by any main roads so we always played ball in the driveway.
sorry for your loss. whats crazy is how one mistake can change so many lives so drastically. hope you are ok man!

Which is really what tends to bother me so much in so many of these situations; some people can continue to just live as brazenly all the time and never face repercussions, others can be so careful, make a mistake or otherwise did something that I guarantee every single one of us has probably done before, a one-time completely freak occurrence, and whole families get completely broken from that singular event. One family may lose someone in death, and another family may lose someone to prison, and who knows what aftereffects come next. For some activities, certain outcomes are reasonably expected. But driving is a thing that just doesn't *click* with some people in the way it does with others. I agree they shouldn't be on the road, licenses should be far far more difficult to obtain compared to today's testing, and especially require re-examination as we age. Alas, we aren't there yet.

I personally have not spoken to him but my other so called family does associate with him.

And the punishment he got was 2.5 years in prison

man, the dude sounds like a nutcase: https://archive.triblive.com/news/man-ordered-to-stand-trial-in-death-of-girl-2/

“He got out of the car and just walked into the house. He didn’t even bother to call the police or an ambulance,” said a visibly angry Corteal as she testified with her fists clenched and staring toward Gibbs.

“As I was trying to do CPR to save my baby, he continued down to the basement to inflate tires on his own kids’ bikes. It was like nothing happened,” Corteal said.

the necro'er disputes this claim!

shoot, calling this a necro post just feels wrong

normally this would definitely be locked and closed as necro, it feels really bad to do so as the victims brother has come in and gave an update after 14 years.

@Shipley329
My condolences to you.
The 13 yrs must of been hard and longing.

Oh man what a sad situation. That's one of my worse fears when driving, to cause an accident, either a traffic accident, or hitting someone, and either killing or seriously injuring someone. It's something that can happen so fast that can change lives for ever.

It sounds like this guy was not very remorseful though. At first I was feeling kinda bad for him too since accidents do happen, but it sounds like he hardly cared about what he did.
