Driver Charged For Splashing School Kids

Police received a number of complaints after a 24-second clip of the incident was posted on YouTube.

In the footage, her partner gives a commentary as she motors down a road in Plymouth, Devon.

"Puddle at the bottom of the hill coming up, kids at the bottom of the hill - come on!" he shouts with glee.

The clip, filmed from inside the car, shows the vehicle splashing several children standing at a bus stop.

Officers said the 29-year-old woman had voluntarily contacted them and was interviewed on Sunday.

She has been reported for careless driving and a file is being sent to the Crown Prosecution Service.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police told Sky News Online: "Deliberately splashing people by driving through a big puddle could mean that the motorist was driving without reasonable consideration for other road users.

"There is also the real danger that by driving through standing water this could cause the driver of the vehicle to lose control and could result in a road traffic collision.

"People involved in this practice could find themselves prosecuted and points put on their licence."

Driving through a puddle to splash bystanders is an offence of "careless, and inconsiderate, driving" under the Road Traffic Act section 3 and carries a fine of up to £2,500.

Four years ago, a driver who admitted soaking a workman by driving through a puddle was fined £150 and given three penalty points by magistrates in Yeovil.

If they hit the puddle and hydroplaned or otherwise lost control of the car, a definite possibility, the story would be quite a bit different...

Lol, this is actually a news worthy story? I think the news, and the cops, need to find something better to do... like oh I don't know, report news and arrest criminals.

When I was a kid waiting for the bus I had enough sense to not stand next to huge puddles for just that reason.

I remember driving my '74 van through an area where there had to be 12 inches of water on the road. I was probably doing 5 mph and was passing a car maybe doing 3 mph. It was sunny and hot after the downpour and the guy in the car had his window down. I wasn't really paying attention to it, but my passenger looked over at me and said, "uh, Craig, you just dumped about 10 gallons of water in this guy's lap and he is pissed. I'd just keep passing him and get the fuck out of here!":laugh::evil:

Is it just me or do the kids look like they enjoyed getting splashed? It appears that they took off their coats/backbacks and set them down behind where they were standing.

Something like this happened to me while at UF...I was in a bus stop waiting for the rain to clear when a car came and pounded the puddle in front of it.

Some little baby took the brunt of it, filled it's stroller up.

I had my bike with me at the time so I just hopped on and caught up. I slugged the passenger in the jaw. They just hauled ass away. I reported their tag as well when I got home (no cell phone then).

So wait someone splashed you at a bus stop. You caught up to them with your bicycle then somehow punched the passenger in the car in the face. Then you reported them. RIGHTTTT.

ive done that also back in my 4X4 days. 44" tires put up a serious splash. not my fault people didnt have their windows up in the rain. i wasnt speeding either, usually it was people not going with the flow of traffic. apparently splashing water on a windshield can be hazardous as well, as it limits the drivers vision until it flows off. the kids in my neighborhood always yelled at us to splash them, it was apparently fun for them.

That's what the driver is saying, that the kids wanted to be splashed. Wouldn't surprise me but overall, all I can say again is

UF rush hour is about 10mph traffic and red lights, easy on a bike. I lived about 3 miles from the campus...bike was about 3x faster getting home than car.

Don't push your own shortcomings off on me.

So you punched out the passenger, who may have had nothing to do with the driver's decision to speed through the puddle, and quite possibly did not even have any idea of the driver's intentions? Wow, you sure showed him.

Damn Karnac...with your super powers of perception you missed the fact that the asshole was flipping me off and laughing about it.

Good game, but like everything in life you simply fail.

Actually, I didn't "miss" anything. These are kind of some important details that you completely omitted from your post. Only "Karnac" himself would have known about this part of your little story, since you originally failed to include anything about it.

Was he flipping off the baby and laughing about that too?

Yeah, they were laughing, pointed then hit the puddle blowing their horn. Don't think they saw the baby though.

Tell your jelly-donut eating mom that the Psychic Hotline doesn't work.

WTF am I supposed to tell more into the story? What they were wearing, the car, who else was at the bus stop? It was fucking 15 years ago.

You really try TOO HARD.

scram kid.
