Driver and baby considered carpool?

On my way to dropping off and picking my 8 month old son to his grandma, the usual road I use has a carpool lane. Is it considered carpooling? Just a thought

So a van full of grade school kids doesn't count as an HOV?

Two people. I don't remember a sign on the HOV that says "you must be this tall to be considered a passenger."

I think thers a flaw in that analogy. If your passenger is 20 something BUT doesn't have a license, it won't count?

I agree that it should be two licensed drivers in order to be a carpool. That is why the lane was created, to reduce the number of drivers on the road...

With the exception of buses and the like it is perfect logic. What is the purpose of the HOV lane. Here at least it is to cut down on emmissions.

Why so? You could have a passenger who is well over the legal age, but might not have a driver's license. By that logic, it would mean that the van pool/car pool doesn't qualify for the express lanes.

I think babies and non-licensed drivers sould be considered legitimate passengers. Blow up dolls should not.

I agree with Tiles. You don't need to have a license to be deemed worthy as a passenger. As long as you've got a living person, doesn't matter what age.

Then what is the point of HOV lanes?

Exactly

The lanes were created to reduce traffic, plain and simple

Kinda makes you wonder what would happen if you had a child in a car seat, but someone didn't see it and reported you to whoever oversees such stuff (ie: in Seattle, there's a number to call to report people abusing it).

That would really piss me off if my passenger was a licensed driver that was a midget.

Babies definitely count here. There was a lot of complaining about it for a while but it was pretty cut and dry that babies=people.

Really? You mean, if I had a baby, I could drive in the HOV lane? Where can I get one????
