I have Ghost 2003, butdecided to get DriveImage 2002 from Amazon for $9.

I have done two partition backups to CD-R with Drive Image and neither are usable in Image Explorer or for restore although a backup to another hard drive appears okay.

Both CD backups have the same symptom when I try to use them. After loading the dirst CD, they ask for the last. When the last is loaded, it continues to ask for the last CD. FWIW: it seems to be asking for CD #5 although only 4 were produced with no indication of any problem during creation. The results were the same with the backup done with and without verifying.

When each CD was written (approx 5 minuted each) it took Drive Image an additional 4-6 minutes to close the media. During this lengthy process, there was no CD activity for minutes at time.

The CDR drive is a Liteon LTR-48125W wth latest firmware. It works perfectly with Norton Ghost 2003 and with the same 16X CD-Rs.

Interestingly, the CDs created with Drive Image show 3 files totalling around the normal capacity of a CD-R, however, properties show that only 2.92 MB are in use with no free space. The 2.92 MB is approximateky the size of the BOOTCAT and BOOTIMG files.

Any ideas?

Powerquest Tech Support is useless. No forums, a knowlede bas that would fit on a 3x5 card and email reports that imply hell will freeze over before you get any answer.

TIA

Are you imaging a dynamic disk (Win2k)? DriveImage isn't compatible with dynamic disks.

Otherwise I am clueless whats going on. (Unless its not detecting the correct speed for the CD-R's and is burning them faster than they are rated for and they are just corrupt.)

Good luck.

Thanks Warcon,

But no dynamic disk. And the OS is WinXP Pro with ALL MS updates. The partition being backed up is NTFS.

If the CD-Rs are corrupted, I would not expect the verify step to work. On the backup where I used Verify, after the backup was done it reloaded each CD again and read each one before going to the next. No error messages.

I agree that something is srange about the CD-Rs though. From my Computer, right clicking on on any of the CD-Rs shows 2.x MB in use and no freespace, But if I open the CD-R, it shows 3 files including the 600MB image file. For what its worth, I can copy all 600+ MB of files off the CD-R that claims to have only 2.x MB in use.

This is W3rd.
