Drive Question

I just built my first system yesterday. I have a WD 10GB HDD installed as primary master with a Maxtor 6.5GB as primary slave. BIOS recognizes both drives but Win98SE does not acknowledge the slave drive. CDROM is secondary master and ZIP100 is secondary slave. It shows the WD as C: CDROM is D: and ZIP Drive is E: but no second HDD. Any Ideas?

Both jumpers are correct and it shows in the BIOS and in device manager, but windows explorer does not recognize it. Neither drive have any partitions and the slave was not reformatted just moved from my old WIN98 system.

If it hasn't been partitioned or formatted, Win98 won't see it. You'll have to go into FDISK and partition and format, then it should show up in Explorer.

Just a stab, but are the jumpers set up okay on your zip disk? My brother was having some funny problems with his internal Zip when it didn't have a jumper and was setting itself as e:, but after putting a jumper on there and making it slave, it set itself up as b: and everything else was fine.
