So when I look at the properties of my C drive in my computer, it tells me there's 220gigs free out of a 232gig drive. It's a 40gig drive, so what in God's name is windows up to now? Restart didn't help, neither did disc cleanup. I can try a defrag but that's about it.

Can you post a pic of the pie chart in explorer, and check what it says in disk management.

Also, can you post the model no of your hdd.

try disconnnecting the drive and reconnecting it while making sure that the connection is firm. then, go into BIOS and tell us what you see.

I have seen that a few times. In two cases the drive was failing somehow and were replaced. In another I had to wipe the drive on another system, becasue something in the original systems bios was suddenly not reading the drive right.

I put in a different IDE cable and all is well. I guess something was wrong with the other one... oh well. Thanks all
