Drive pooling

Anyone know if the hds I'll be pooling need to initially have no data on them? Right now I have my server with 3 1tb drives and they all have data on them and I was thinking of using something like stablebit dp to pool them together.

lol mostly home vids of the tomorrow to be 3 yr old daughter and son's football games/swim team events/baseball games/ and bible camp stuff. I've prob got about 20 blu rays backed up too along with my dvd collection.
