Drive "operating temperature"?

Hey all,

I was looking for the specs on my maxtor fluid bearing drive (80gb / 7200) which runs the hottest of any of the drives I have... they list the "operating temperature" as 5c to 55c. Does this mean that the case/room temp can be as hot as 55c and the drive will be OK (with a much higher temp than 55c), or do they mean that the drive itself (via the C2 smart code) shouldn't exceed 55c?

I ask because it hits the mid 50's while defragging... but the C2 status field reads "OK - value is normal". My other maxtor drive (160gb / 7200) only hits the mid 40's...

My case stays around 26c and my cpu is around 38c.

Thanks!

its the drive, not the case temp. if your case temp reaches 55c you are simply screwed.
