I have an older maxtor drive that is no longer accessible. If I try to boot with it, the primary hard disk fails. If I boot with another drive and use this as a secondary, it doesn't show up. However,

[*]BIOS detects the drive properly
[*]Windows loads the driver for this drive brand in device manager
[*]Platters still spin, I don't hear any abnormal noises/clicks/grinding

I'm going to try booting this up with a win98 floppy and use fdisk to see if the mbr is intact.

Any other ideas? Hopefully their is a utility I can use to brute force access this, otherwise I will have to send it to OnTrack for data recovery.

Great. FDISK says No Fixed Disks Present. So I guess I'm out of luck...

No. :(

I just shipped it out for data recovery so it's in their hands now.
