drive loses power after POST

I'm experiencing a very strange problem. My motherboard is an Intel D975XBX2. Tried a bunch of different BIOSes on it already. The problem I'm having is with an LS-120/floppy drive (Superdrive). When I boot up the computer, I pop a disk in and then eject it, etc... and it works fine. I can keep doing this until the BIOS finishes posting. After that the drive has absolutely no power. If I put a disk in the drive, I can't even eject it without rebooting the system and ejecting it before it posts again.

Has anyone here ever seen such a problem before or know what might be causing it?

sounds like it could be a powersupply issue.
Disconnect something else in your computer which requires electricity...video card, hard drive, etc.
now see if you can use it. after the post.

If not, I would just get rid of it.
Flash RAM, is less expensive than floppy disks, i mean you can get 1GB SD/miniSD or USB KEY for $5, and most BIOSes will boot from usb so why use floppy's at all?

Already tried unplugging other things. Doesn't help. The PSU is a Corsair 620W, so there's definitely enough power.

Re: usb keys and such, I have tons of them. This isn't my computer. It is a friend's and he wants to keep the ls-120/floppy drive, so I definitely need to find the solution to this.

Hmm...

Sounds like a windows Driver issue, not a bios issue.
I would suggest updating the drivers, but I am sure you have already done that.
..Sorry I couldn't help more
