My wife's computer is still running ME. I'm finally organizing files and getting some plan to our shared drives. How do I set a second HD in her computer to use a certain drive letter (for consistency across all the computers)? It's easy to do in XP (what I use) but I can't seem to find it anywhere on hers.

Windows 9x/ME does not support drive letter reassignments for fixed disks.

Its not a MS restriction.

Me is a old 9x OS. 9x has a hard coded way of enumerating drive letters for fixed disks. You can't get around this because the OS does not support anything else. The only way to shift fixed disk drive letters around is to shuffle them around on the IDE channels or if you have SCSI drives change their ID's.

2k/XP have a entirely different system based on the volume's serial #. Once a drive letter is matched to a volume's serial number it sticks until the registry entry is deleted, serial # is changed, or you change the letter assignment yourself.
