Drive Letter Assignments

I have been playing around with Partition Magic 6.0 for a while now. Also reconfiguring hard drives from one system to another, etc. One thing has me puzzled though. How do I "reorganize" the drive letter assignments on my systems when I make changes? For instance, I have been messing around with a dual boot (98 and w2k) on one drive; the drive letter assignments are reported differently in 98 and 2k. Or a partition will still appear with the Plextor logo, since at one time it was assigned to a Plextor CD-R. How do I get rid of this. It seems like JAZ and ZIP drives are not a problem. CD drives will show up in hardware manager and have a SCSI ID assigned, but do not show up under "my computer". I have some good resource books but cannot find any reference to what is probably a relatively simple thing to adjust. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I don't know how to do it in 98, but with 2k it's pretty easy.

Go to administrative tools, then Computer Management. There's a disk manager in there.

I had to do it because one of my game drives was being shown as E in 98 and D in 2000 and it would mess up things.. So I changed it to Z (to free up the letter) changed the other to D, and then the other back to E.

Works pretty well. If you can tolerate the way things are in 98 then it should help out.

You could the removable drive letters on systems properties on win98.
Change this on device manager, might consider the letter as X, Y or Z, so you don't have to change the letters again when you add another hd and partitions. But you have to redesignate the letters when you format the drive with Win98, and reinstall.
