Drive-in theaters... any near you?

I almost went to see The Expendables the other night, now I'm glad I didn't. It's showing at the drive-in theater. Two shows - Despicable Me shows first, then The Expendables. $6.00 admission (adults) Children are $2 or something cheap. (And, you get to see both movies.)

And, drive-in theater food! Our local drive-in theater has the best french fries on the planet. And enough pop-corn to feed an army is only like $3.50 A large pizza is $8. And the candy that they sell at regular theaters for $3 or $4 (or more) is only $1.25
Plus, our area isn't populated with guidos or other such idiots who just want to be annoying.

I've never actually seen one in real life yet...

Wonder where the closest one to Boston is.

We have a few...it's a good time, but not the place to go to see a movie you actually want to see.

You 're also guaranteed to see some kind of sexual act somewhere in the lot

Nope...not anymore. The last one closed last year.

The area surrounding it had become so built up with industrial complexes that you could barely see the screen because of all the lights shining into the drive-in.

The last time I went to the Drive-In was back in 1987. I saw a double feature of which I only remember "Born In East L.A.". We sat there in the Shelby listening to the sound over the original AM radio. It was quite fun for a first date, especially finding a hot college cheerleader captain that actually liked old classic cars.

Unfortunately there are no Drive-In theaters anywhere in the area that I can think of now. There used to be several on routes I took often but all have met their demise. I think people have become pussies. I realize this is Texas and in the summer it is not exactly cool but at night it is not bad at all and the only time the Drive-Ins were open was at night.

If there was a Drive-In within 30 miles of my house I would go all the time in one of my old cars. It is a damned good time that seems to be lost on today's generations for the most part. It used to be a way of life.

There's one nearby that's decent but not this time of year. It's supposed to hit 112 today.

Only one left within normal driving distance :(
I truly miss them. Such great memories as a kid, I wish my kids could enjoy them.

OP: Just so I get this straight, the double bill is Expendables and Despicable Me? That's a weird one.

That's one thing I like about the local drive-ins, they often times show 2 totally different movies. I don't understand why they'd put a semi chick flick with a horror movie, but that way you can take a date and both see something you like. The price out here is awesome, the burritos they sell are some of the best I've ever had. And if you have a kick ass car stereo it makes for a great sound experience. Out here they do 1-2-1 for the movie, so you can go @ 8 and stay until 2AM, you rewatch the 1st movie if you stay for the 3rd viewing but it's still fun. And when the last ones over I don't think they don't make you leave. I know people who'll stay in the parking lot drinking and partying until it's time for the swapmeet people to start setting up.

Only two sites left in the entire state and none within 45 minutes drive. Used to be several close by, I went when they were open and was sad to see them go. I honestly believe that there would be a market for a drive-in in this area, but the land is too expensive and more valuable for other purposes.

I really enjoy going to the drive-in. Bigger bang for the buck, $6 per person for a double feature. Seating is alot better.... air bed in the back of the pick-up. Playground and mini-putting available. Most of all better beverages, byob or 7&7's...lol

The main thing I don't like is that going makes for a long night. Usually when the last movie ends, its already past midnight. Sometimes mosquito's can be a problem.

On a side note, the double features here are usually set up as a G movie first (for the kiddies) and a PG movie as a follow-up.

I own a drive in theater! It even comes with covered parking and remote-gated access. Ok, its my garage. And the theater is in the basement.

Thanks for reminding me to check as we haven't been all year. The local one has The Other Guys/Salt double feature for $6 so going next weekend.

And yes, the food owns at drive-ins.

We have a Drive-In near by. In fact I worked security there last year. They downsized on workers this year & slightly raised prices on snacks & tickets do to the Owners wife which was in charge of Taxes not paying all of what they owned....

Two flicks for $8 not a bad deal vs $8 for one movie or $10. Also can bring your own snacks and drinks, even booze.

They are showing The Expendables with Predators. I haven't went all season though as there hasn't been a really huge double feature I felt like going too.

I might see The Expendables again with Predators though with a friend....

we have one now: http://www.mustangdrive-in.com/

I haven't been to a drive-in over 10 years.

That place shows 3 movies for 1 entry price?
Yeesh - that's a long night. ^_^

Used to go to this one in college. Funny story is that it's in Rural Iowa...what's the first movie I saw there? Twister. Which was filmed in rural Iowa. And had a drive in theater get destroyed in the movie.

:D

I  that movie. :)

There is a drive-in in Oregon, Ohio. It's like a 15-20 minute drive from our spot in Toledo.

Haven't been there in 3 or 4 years. Last time I went was on a date. Getting cozy in the back of a pick-up is definitely awesome. And iirc, it was like $6 or $7, and food is fairly cheap.
