As the battle on acronis and norton ghost continues .. here comes Drive Image XML http://www.runtime.org/dixml.htm .This one is FREE FREE FREE and created by the same company that made GetBackData.

I've just created disk image of my drive-C ( win XP + all the essential programs) . Very quick :)

my next thing to do is to install a blank spare harddrive (will be drive E) and try to RESTORE the disk image saved on drive-C, then remove the original drive and mount the new drive as drive C, and see if it will boot. I'll let you all know if it works or not.. I'll work on this next week.

In the meantime, has anyone got any experience with this ? especially RESTORING the saved disk image ?

Thanks guys !

I actually just found this program myself when I upgraded my RAID array. It worked very well for me. I created an image of my Windows drive within WinXP using the VSS option of the program. I then installed another version of WinXP on another hard drive and resored the image to my new RAID array. The program worked just as its supposed to and the restored image works well. I booted back into my "old" Windows install on the new RAID array and it worked great.

How do you run this to restore an image if your Windows partition is corrupt? It seems like this program only runs from Windows!

Right on the like above it says: You can run DriveImage XML from a WinPE boot CD-ROM.

Would this allow me to take a dynamic RAID1 (software) drive set to a hardware RAID1 drive set (given that the RAID card is installed first before imaging)?
