Drive Image will not run

I can't get drive image to run the way it should by starting it in Windows and letting it reboot and load.

Does anyone know where it is supposed to be writing its start on reboot info? Is it in the boot.ini? And why it would not be working? I've tried turning off virus protect but it still doesn't work. It just reboots into Windows normally. The only way I can run it is by booting from floppies every time.

I'm running Windows 2K.

Did you try and re-install it? I think it has a repair option. Did it stop working correctly or never worked at all?

I think it worked at one time but it quit. I have tried reinstalling but that didn't help.

I don't get any errors, everything appears to work properly but then when it asks if you want to reboot and perform operation, it just reboots to Windows normally.

It creates a virtual floppy image. I get these messages right after my POST:

1) "Msg 11 Loading Floppy Image",

then:

2) "Msg 12 F1 Loddcdg Starting Caldera DR DOS",

then it loads DI.

Have you tried unistalling it BEFORE you reinstalled?

Did you go through the registry after uninstall and before reinstall to delete leftovers?

Do you really know if it ever worked for you?

It really doesn't save that much time to reboot from Windows into DI, maybe 30-45 seconds at most, although it is cool. I'm not sure I'd spend tons of time dicking with it.

Yes, it worked at one time and seems to work for a time on a fresh install. I think some program I use keeps it from working. I just can't figure out which one is interfering.

Yes, I uninstalled and reinstalled.

And yes, its not worth spending that much time on, in fact I've left it the way it is for months. It is convenient when it works though.

I have a similar issue, the application does not automatically load after initiating from within Windows 2000 Pro, Windows reloads and brings me back to the desktop. This is not a big deal to me; I figured I would just use the Rescue Diskettes, but the Program does not fully load from diskette 2.

I have recreated the diskettes many times over, even using different diskettes, but I am unable to get the program to fully load.

This has not been a problem for me in Windows XP; just Win2K Pro. I have not researched the issue yet on PQ's web site but plan to later today.

I made some progress with my issue after reading the information at the following link:

When running QuickImage or Drive Image DOS, virtual floppy doesn't load

I had installed a 2nd drive in my case in anticipation of migrating my data to the new drive. I had set the new drive up as MASTER and made the current drive a SLAVE to the new master drive. Drive Image was looking to the MBR of the MASTER which was not the drive with the Drive Image installation on it. I rejumpered my drives to correct the MASTER/SLAVE configuration, now DI is trying to start the DI application upon restart of the machine, but it stops responding much like my issue when using the Rescue Diskettes.

Obviously I have another issue to work through but I wanted to share with you all that I am now able to get my Win2K machine to attempt to load DI after initiating the application within Windows.

Thank you for the post.

I had actually searched the PQ website many times and not found that page. I'm not at home to try but unfortunately I don't think this will solve my problem. First clue is that it worked at one time before some piece of software was installed. Second, I'm sure that I've installed it on the C: drive. I am however running RAID so the C: is not on the primary IDE but there is no hard drive on the primary. I will however look into this. I think it is more likely that something I'm running is keeping it from writing to the MBR or Windows is protecting the MBR.

As for your problem, are you saying that you can't even get it to boot from the floppy rescue disc set? If that is the case it would suggest some machine or setup incompatibility.

I haven't been able to get around the issues with my Win2K machine and using Drive Image. I suspect the problems are with my operating system, not the DI software. This particular rig had a run of STOP errors a few months ago so maybe something is amiss within the OS.

I also tried to install RTCW to this rig tonight...it just will not install. I was repeatedly getting I/O errors and one STOP error when trying to install the game. The game installed to my XP machine without a hitch.
