Just wanted to mention how great a product Powerquest Drive Image 5.0 is (and kicking myself for not using before!) After installing XP and getting all of the drivers and programs in great working order, I made an image of my 9 gig NTFS C: partition, and put it on my 9 gig D: partition. It only took 2 gigs of space (uncompressed even!). All I can say is goodbye to 3-4 hours of install time and hello to a 10 minute total system recovery! Super easy....wish I bought it long ago! Anyway, just wanted to share the experience....

i got it installed, but haven't used it yet. there's something with my computer about dynamic disks. so i can't write to them. i have 2 dynamic HD, my 30gb and 80gb. i need them to not be dynamic so i have to get rid of all that data before i can use drive image. unless i just burn it. but i don't want to waste 5+ cds.

Was the 9 gig partition full of data or was it only partially filled? I'm guessing your c: partition only used 2 gigs out of a 9 gig total space. Anyway, Drive Image has been also my favorite disk imaging program. I find it easier and more convenient to use than Symantec's Ghost (which is also a good program).

You are correct Doh! The copied partition wasn't anywhere near being full. I wasn't aware that the image file would only be the size of the data on the partition, instead of the partition size itself.

Can you save images over a network? I can't seem to find information on networks one way or another on their site.

I must agree.

I recently upgraded an older version of Ghost to version 2002 only to find out that, despite what they say on the box and the website, it is NOT fully compatible with XP. It cannot write to an NTFS partition. You have to search the knowledge base on the website to find this out which I think borders on fraud, but I'm no lawyer.

So I just accepted that I got screwed and bought Drive Image. Not only does it work with NTFS it is much easier to use. It loads from Windows. No more boot disks. No more cryptic switches to remember. No more entering that stupid serial number every time. No more CRC errors. No more Symantec.

Oh, and yes you can save over a network. I just got it and don't know all the details but I think you do have to use a boot disk to do this. If you create a DriveImage boot disk, it gives you the option of installing nic drivers on the boot disk. So I assume you can do this but I don't know all the limitations yet.
