Drive Configuration

I just bought a DFI X48-T3RS motherboard for my new computer, but I'm having troubles with my RAID and DVD burner. I have a SATA DVD drive and 2 750GB hard drives that I want to put in RAID. I can get all that working, but the DVD drive is terribly slow. I tried plugging in the hard drives JMB363 SATA controller, but that didn't help. Is there some reason my DVD drive is going slow, other than it might not work? It seems to work fine, but just running really slow. Before I give up and assume it's broken, I want to try some other configuration to see if that will help. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
