...when on country roads, especially at night. I was coming home from helping with a network, driving on one of those twisty country roads. Somebody came flying up behind me and passed me, at a high rate of speed. A few miles up, I caught up with him. He'd hit someone's dog. I slowed to a crawl and watched as he touched it, it was obvious the dog never knew what hit it. I didn't see the accident, perhaps it could have been prevented, perhaps not. I can't help but think had he gone just a bit slower, then maybe the dog would be alive and home safe and sound right now. :(

I don't know why life has to be so fast paced, but it's apparent someone's always wanting to be somewhere else and they want to be there right away.

Sorry you had to witness just another one of life's stupidities and what can become of them :(

Driving fast on country roads here in Michigan is an invitation to have an accident with a deer. Believe me, you won't want to do that a second time. Anything could be just out of sight.

Agreed. A friend of mine was killed in a car accident last week (he was not driving, his friend was). :( It has been a tough week. He was a great kid, one of the nicest people I've had the pleasure of knowing.

Be smart people...the 5 minutes you shave off the time getting to your destination is not worth the risks.

You have more than deer to worry about if you live here. There's everything from the common squirrel or rabbit to dogs and cats to deer, bear, and coyote.

I want a bumper sticker that says:

Drive carefully. Newton was RIGHT!

Two masses really can't occupy the same space at the same time. It causes dents. :Q

A body in motion tends to remain in motion at a constant velocity and direction. That means it takes more energy to stop or turn than it does to plow directly into whaterver (or WHOever) is in front of you (unless you're in reverse). :Q

Agreed.

Just last night a guy tried to outrun a train over an unguarded crossing near my house. He underestimated and his car was crushed. He died on the scene and was only 20 years old.

Carefully is the key, not speed. I see a lot of people driving slow (or even at the speed limit and above) that just don't get it when it comes to driving. I don't care if you're going 80 or 40. When you don't use your blinkers, when you merge traffic poorly, when you brake for no apparent reason on the freeway, when you slow down to *look* at accidents or other scenery, etc etc are the things that cause problems.

A couple days ago a guy at school (Aero-engineering freshman from san jose) tried to beat the train on his bicycle...train clipped his rear wheel as he went across...guy got tossed into a wood post (I think like a 4x4) and snapped it off. Died at the hospital from major trauma...
