My father got a new HP desktop which has a very cool feature - a drive bay USB HDD docking station. The HDD pops in and out easily from the front of the case. Of course it is some proprietary HP drive but I was thinking they had to make something like this for a standard HDD. A quick scan through Newegg didn't turn one up. Anyone know anything about that?

Such things are beginning to appear. They used to be called Mobile Racks, but some cases now feature them. In most cases a caddy or inner tray is required to hold the SATA HDD. An example:
