Drive a Toyota Tacoma?

Damn thats scary since I own a 2007 Tacoma. I know Toyota switched to the Drive by wire system which I don't like but it looks like the guys who's trucks went crazy were automatics.

Just be prepared to turn off the key or shift into neutral instead of going along for the ride as it seems the people in the story did.

I guess if that really happened, be prepared to engine brake, manual or automatic. Not the best way to stop, but given a little time (as in if there was no car in front or anything), it is a way to stop.

They do need to get this problem taken care of though fast, even if it's only a few people. This is the kinda thing that could further lower their reputation.

Exactly. I own a 2005 though...and they seem to be stating it is a 2007 problem. Regardless...Toyota really is getting some bad press lately and this is certainly unfortunate.

Unless the brakes failed at the same time, I don't see how this can happen.

Sounds like a pedal problem to me.

They wouldn't be able to engine brake if what they're saying is true: The throttle is being held open by the electronic actuated throttlebody. Engine braking involves keeping the throttlebody closed so that little air is getting into the engine.

That said, it seems like it could go either way, but the various people across the US encountering the same issue does seem to be indicitive of a problem.

The carmaker was glorified to the extent where the only way forward is downhill.
