it's about 10 miles from Brooklyn to Holland tunnel, and you'll be doing an average of 20mph if you're lucky, since there is no direct "highway" route to the Holland Tunnel. coupled with the roadway work that is being done on the BQE and Brooklyn Bridge and general traffic issues associated with city driving, you're probably going to be looking at about a 60-80 minute drive just to get to the tunnel. then from there, you have another 15-20 miles just to get south of Staten Island... so that's potentially 1.5 hours to 2 hours just to save $13. and you probably waste $5 in gas just making that trip.

TLDR:
take the Verazzano Narrows Bridge!

IIRC, it will be more than $100 soon for a 5 axle truck to cross some of those bridges.

That is great

There should be a label on everything especially on Long Island like the California Emission label except this will say

"NY/NJ Tollway Authority surcharge for your convenience"

Awesome

I was a little off, the planned increases will make the toll $165.00 a day in 2015.

It's already $78 a day.

good to hear

I know it's a holiday, but my only point of comparison was driving into lower Manhattan on New Year's Eve last year to pick up a guy I was dating... I figured all the traffic would be centered around midtown, but it still took me about an hour each way to get into Manhattan from ~5 miles away and back out.

Sounds like driving the extra distance to save a few cents on pumping gas...

But do the math, and see!

North Dakota = No tolls to be found <3

P.S. If I knew where the heck I was going, then I'd take the detour. If it took me 2 hours... I'd pay the darn $$$

12 mins at $13 - $1 for gas ... 12 dollars ...

Is your time worth more to you than one dollar per minute?

Verrazano bridge in nyc.

i'm going back to DC from brooklyn, ny.
thinking of going thru manhatten and the holland tunnel. (no tolls for outbound holland.)
it adds 12miles to my commute which i predict will only add ~12 min at 60mph. (Leaving b4 10am EST.)

Yes/no?

edit:
car gets 30mpg.
12miles @ $3/gallon in NJ = ~$1

Assuming $0.50 per mile for mileage you are still coming out ahead by driving the 12 miles (12 x $0.50 per mile = $6.00). You should save a whole $7.00 ... assuming you do not get into an accident ...
