Tips are dumb.

Waitresses/bartenders should be paid standard pay and then the tip would actually be a tip and not part of their wage.

When it comes to food, I think those waiters should be tipped higher. When it comes to alcohol, its ridiculous how disproportionate the tip is.

I tip based on the service, good service good tip, crappy service crappy tip. Every place I've ever been with a mandatory tip policy in place has had very poor service. I won't go to places with a mandatory tip policy.

We should all remember that this is Manhattan and not the rest of the country. I've heard some insane prices but those are ridiculous ... even considering all the money being spent there.

It's been stated that a tip is not a tip if it is mandatory and I agree. Of the 18% gratuity ... I wonder how much the bartender gets or is this just additional profit to the Bar? Some of those places are very nice but the ambiance is not worth it IMHO. For the price of one drink (less tip) I can get a bottle of my fav spirit and enjoy at my leisure.

I usually throw down $1 / drink, but around here that's like a 50% tip. Yuengling is usually only $2 a bottle at most bars.

Not sure how I feel about the high tips on overpriced drinks. I don't think i'd ever go to a bar that charged that much for a drink.

Tipping based on the price of the drink is retared. Just give them $1 per drink served. Not like it takes more effort to open a $8 bottle of beer vs. a $2 bottle of beer. Or mix a $26 beefeater vs. a $5 well drink. All takes the same effort. Get glass, get ice, pour different alcohol etc..doesnt get much easier.
