No, I'm pretty sure this phrase came from a commercial where Kool-Aid man burst through a wall and yelled, "Oh Yeah!"

Yes, the source is Jim Jones. I thought everyone knew that.

i always assumed that was the source but i never really understood why i was hearing it associated with the right. even in the context of religion/cult practices, i never really could get my mind around that aspect.

It was used a few times in The War Room which is where I think I first heard it...

It means to blindly do as you are told, regardless of the consequences.

Rooted in the 'Faithful followers of Jones', who knew that they would die if they did.

I am always amazed at how young the P&N posters are! This is exactly the basis of the drinking the koolaid phrase. All the times I have seen it used here and I never even suspected that the users had no idea what they were talking about. With the high percentage of liberals on the forum, I should have known!

What a garbage post. You have two people here so far who did not know. How do you know they used the term in ignorance before? Even so, the others did know. So your generalizations about libs not knowing what they're talking about is rubbish. Coming from you, I should have known. ;)

I love it when I get secondaries! My generalizations about libs were formulated when I worked for a CIO named Liza who was appointed by Clinton. She was appointed because she once was the baby sitter for Gore and worked the campaign (probably baby sitting) and had some very light weight computer knowledge. She, without exception, would go after some IT bauble with no in death knowledge to support her decision. Then we were all stuck with it while millions were wasted before failure. She was eventually fired, but at considerable waste. I have been acid testing my assumptions for some eight years and was pretty sure that I was right before I found these forums. The self professed liberal absolute knowledge of the attitude of Americans and how they elect officials during this election removed any last shred of doubt. No, it is a fact! Liberals are lightweights in the knowledge department with a pretty glowing veneer and not much beneath that. Who would have thought they were so wrong and all of those perspective 18 yoa voters just weren't mature enough to bother?

Yup another stupid authoritarian male had to take orders from a woman which caused him eight years of analysis to try to prove himself better. You poor poor Republican male chauvinists and your tiny dick syndrome. So sad.

It doesn't have anything to do with the right or left. It's about blind obedience, or going along with something even when you know it is wrong.

It's about blind faith in religious nuts that demonstrates human gullibility to be so immense that people will toast their passing. It's about the futility of telling people who are blind where they are going. People prefer death over self knowledge. And the people this is true of is us. We all think it's the other guy who has the problem. Humanity is engaged n the Kool-Aid wars. My Kool-Aid is better than yours.

I knew what it meant, but not the origin.

Edit : I had assumed this was the origin.

an originally Christian group that later mainly advocated social justice and turned into a cult when Jim Jones turned it into a mini-dictatorship, with controversial viewpoints and practices.

Sounds just like the Democratic party :)

I'm surprised that this question had to be asked, too!

Not knowing this has more to do with being young and not party affiliation. Hell this happened almost 10 years before I was born. I still knew about it though, and am still kinda shocked others didn't.

I agree with Infohawk for once (actually I agree with him in regards to a few issues, he's just so incredibly hardline in all his stances that he makes it difficult) in that this is a garbage post :)

In my case, it is garbage in relating age to knowledge of the origin of that term. I'm only 18, and I knew where it came from :p
