Drinking alcohol while recovering from sickness

Friend's 21st tonight. I really want to go out to the bars with my friends but I also need to be in good shape Saturday morning for the ND/Michigan game. I have a bit of a head cold. Stuffy nose, headaches in the morning/night. No sore throat or major cough yet (and that's always the worst). I cleared up a bit today.

Will drinking beers tonight set me back a ways in my recovery? I've heard stories about whiskey actually helping in moderation, but my intent if I go out tonight will certainly not be moderation.

Experiences welcome.

I don't vomit drinking beer. Now, were I going and hitting up margarita specials...ugh. I'd rather not think about it.

Alcohol is a toxin. Getting drunk is controlled poisoning.

You figure it out.

This is the "going out on Thursday nights before a ridiculous workload hits me like an oil tanker" experience. Also, I'm not some raging alcoholic. I live within a 60 second walk of a sports bar that serves pizza and I've only been there once in the 3 weeks I've lived next to it. ;)

But how can I resist $1 drafts where I get to keep the glass?

Yes. In addition to dehydrating you, alcohol also impairs immune function and will make it harder for you to get well.

if you limit yourself to 8 beers or less

drink water afterwards and give yourself 10 hours of sleep than you should be good

if you have to get up early tomorrow though forget about it

12oz, I believe. But they're glasses with funny sayings and logos.

It's $3 for a beer and the glass and refills for a $1. In other words, the more you drink, the less the average cost of your drinks is. I was going to do an Economics thesis on it.

EDIT: Yeah I'll probably be in bed by 1am and don't have to get up until 11:30am on Fridays. I think I will be ok.
