They say to do this often. That it's good for your kidneys and body in general. I often do at works simply because I drink so much water there, nervous habit I've long had. However if I do this I'm going to the bathroom every 20 mins! WTH.

Not fucking true. Colour of urine is not a good indication.

EDIT: Drink when you're thirsty. Is it really that difficult?

I was always told that once you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated.

There's really no need. It always surprises me when people seem to think our bodies need so many interventions just to stay healthy. It doesn't. The concentration of urine is the body's way of regulating blood pressure, fluid level, and osmolarity. And despite the rather convoluted mechanism of control, your kidneys are exceedingly good at it. So as long as you don't do something completely stupid like drink so much water you go into a coma, then your body will deal with it. Just drink when you're thirsty, drink more if you're still thirsty, and don't worry about it.

I was always told that once you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated.
Thirst is one of the last mechanisms the hypothalamus will use in terms of regulating fluid, but it's not exactly as desperate as it implies. You don't suddenly become stupid if you go 2 hours without water and start to feel thirsty.

Drink when you're thirsty. Dont force the issue. Your body is surprisingly good at telling you what it needs

and get a potentially fatal electrolyte imbalance!

Yeah, really.

Unless you're doing some serious cardio every day, you probably don't need clear piss. If you are doing serious cardio, then you need to include a lot of other stuff with your drinking to replace lost minerals and such.

If you're outside being active in a hot and humid climate (think being in the Army at Ft. Benning, GA in the summer), then you want to pretty much continuously drink water.

People die by drinking too much water.

True but usually only in combination with strenuous physical activity. They are loosing electrolytes in their sweat and then over-hydrate without replacing the electrolytes. I don't think you could very easily drink yourself to death just sitting down drinking water. Could be wrong though.

Eh, Pedialyte is actually better. Gatorade is like sugar water.

I still drink Gatorade though.

There was a news story about it. Google "Hold your wee for a wii contest"

True fact from the borderlands: Pedialyte is preferred by illegals crossing the desert a billion to one over Gatorade.

Gatorade is barf-in-a-bottle.

There is no such thing as a fool-proof system, and your renal system is no exception. And there are a lot of fools out there. It's definitely possible to drink yourself to death.
