'Drifting' in Games

I just built the new rig in my sig. I don't play but a few games. I was hoping I could get some nicer graphics with this upgrade from my old Athlon 2000+ Xp with a 4200 Ti @ 4x AGP.

I can turn the graphics up, but I run into a problem that's particularly noticeable in Halo. As I'm running around, if I go to change direction (via the keyboard), the game takes anywhere from .2 to .4 seconds to respond - in the meantime, I 'drift' on my previous path. I have the graphics fairly low and I still get the problem every now and then. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse and I have the sound cranked up to high quality and high variety with EAX using just my onboard.

The problem is confined to just my keyboard - I can use my mouse to turn on a dime. This sounds like hardware to me, but I can't understand why.... Any ideas / fixes? Has anyone else ever had this problem?

Try plugging in a wired keyboard to see if you get the same problem.

I had a similar issue with BF2. It would only 'drift' every minute or so though, it was not constant. In my case I had updated my CPU and somehow that caused the problem. I finally tracked it down by completely deleting and reinstalling the chipset and MB drivers for my motherboard.

@Aflac - I'm going to give that a try - putting in fresh batteries is going to come first, though.

@SketchMaster - I'm using the same Samsung 17" LCD that I used with my last box. Lemme try to remember the specs.... (8 ms response time, agh! that's all I remember...)

@Thera - Since this is a fresh build, I've already updated a lot of the drivers.... I'm pretty sure I have the latest chipset drivers from nvidia, I'm not as certain about the mobo drivers (busy week and my mind is shot to hell right now - @ work).

If you guys have any other suggestions, please let me know. I'll try these things out and post back with the results as soon as I can. I'd like to get this issue worked out soon (so hopefully I'll be able to get to all this after I get home) - I'm anxious to start overclocking this new box.

I'd like to nominate myself for noob-of-the-year. After trying a driver uninstall / install, new batteries, and a few other things, I decided to try playing without my KVM switch and voila - it works fine now. Thanks for the help.
