if its your first day, always go way overdressed and check out what other people are wearing. even still, i wouldn't go with the nikes unless a bunch of other people wear sneakers.

It depends entirely on the company. How were people dressed when you went for interviews?

I went to the interview, and I saw that one guy was wearing blue jeans + striped polo.. other guy was in khakis and polo...

Get yourself some nice brown leather shoes, that will look much better than those Nikes.
And you generally don't want to dress above your bosses, unless they look like slobs, then go right ahead.

I would still recommend wearing nice clothes (possibly even a tie, I did) for the first day. After that, wear what you want.

Wifebeater and flip flops, pants optional, but probably wear clean boxers, and dont go out of your way to make sure the front window deal on the boxers is closed.

If its your first day, a nice pair of pants (cuffed or not, your choice) and a shirt and tie. Black or brown leather shoes, don't have to be wingtips or anything, but for fvck's sake, don't show up to your first day of work with a pair of Nikes on. I don't care if the other kids are wearing them. :)

Looking sharp on the first day is a sign of respect. Its says, "I take this job seriously...at least for the moment".

Come on, get some decent clothes. Get 8-10 dress shirts. Shirts with patterns do well. Then get at least 6 pairs of pants- do khaki, blue, grey, black, cream, and green. Get a pair of black leather dress shoes, and a brown pair. Spend between $60-$100 on them and they'll last you for a good year or two. Then get a belt- I like the reversable belts since they can go with anything.

You'll look decent, you'll always have something to wear, and if you look good you'll get more respect.

Check out Deerstags. They're pretty decent, and you should be able to find them for around $50.

Once you start working, get some good quality shoes.

See if you have a DSW shoe store near you.

Then have TONS of shoes in all varieties for cheap. I picked up 3 pairs of shoes last month that I didn't intend to buy because I figured that having one pair would just wear them out faster.

Black Nikes? Come on, how would that ever be right.

Also try discount department stores like Loehmanns, Nordstrom Rack, Sak's Off Fifth and Niemen's Last Call for some nicer shoes that can be had for a great price.

I suddenly feel somewhat "in fashion", as I own a pair of those exact Skechers.

Of course, those are the most casual pair of shoes I own (other than a pair of New Balance sneakers), but still.

Check out Marshalls or TJ Maxx. Rockport or Bostonian would be a good business-casual brand.

Do some other patterns- I've got a closet full of cool shirts. Stripes, dots, squares, textures...you name it :)

lol, i have those shoes! They're great for day to day tooling around, but one could obviously still get nicer stuff if need be. It's been a couple months since i last got shoes, but i remember macys/robinson may being ok for shoes.
