I'm planning on getting my Dad a rotary tool for his birthday, but I'm not sure what type to get. There seem to be a whole lot of different Dremel (the actual brand) tools out there, then I hear about the Black and Decker RTX tool. And that seems to come in a whole bunch of different models. I'm looking for a kit that comes with a bunch of different attachments and a tool with a fair amount of power. I see that the RTX has almost twice as much "power" as the Dremel (2 amps vs 1.15 amps), has anyone used both? Is there that much of a difference? Any help would be appreciate, thanks a lot!

RTX.
i've used both.
i now use RTX mainly... for the reasons that you mentioned. (Amp)

also it's cheaper than dremels.

so why buy something less powerful that costs more?
all parts are interchangeable... more or less.

I would never go back to Dremel after having used RTX.

The Black&Decker RTX is not only quite a bit more powerful, but is more sturdily built. The bearings have less play in the RTX than in the Dremel. Dremels have too much play, which causes the the bit to chatter, and gives you rough cuts.
