I'm editing a site for a professor in Dreamweaver CS3. I've got two DWT template files for doing site-wide layout changes. These DWTs are attached to tens of pages.
My professor uses Frontpage 2003 and doesn't understand DWTs. If he wants to change the layout on, say, index.htm for example, he'll just edit the page directly OUTSIDE the editable regions, and the next time when I update the DWT Dreamweaver has problems updating index.htm because index.htm's un-editable regions have been messed with.
In Dreamweaver, if I edit index.htm, Dreamweaver doesn't allow me to edit any code outside of the editable regions. This is good.
Frontpage doesn't "get" this. When my professor uses Frontpage, he can edit any code in index.htm, including the code that's outside of the editable regions. Frontpage doesn't lock these regions. So basically my professor ends up editing code that should never be edited except for in the actual DWT file.
How do I get his Frontpage to play nice with the Dreamweaver DWTs?
Whenever I open a new site in Dreamweaver, Dreamweaver automatically sees any DWTs and makes attachments to those pages that require it. So for example:
Computer 1: You have a DWT that affects the layout of 1.htm, 2.htm, and 3.htm
Computer 2: You install Dreamweaver and it scans the above site's files. It automatically makes links between the DWT and 1.htm, 2.htm, and 3.htm. So when you edit the DWT, it automatically updates the 1, 2, and 3 .htm files.
Computer 3:
Frontpage 2003: Frontpage doesn't automatically attach the DWTs to anything. You edit the DWT and it changes NONE of the 1, 2, or 3 .htm pages. Reading the Frontpage help files, it seems like you have to manually attached each htm page to the DWT. So you have to open 1.htm, attach it to the DWT, open 2.htm, attached it to the DWT, open 3.htm, attach it to the DWT, etc. Is there a way to auto attach in Frontpage?
