I have created my template with the editable region that I want. However, when I create a new page from the template, all the links change to correspond where the files are on my computer.
Ex. I have ../../html/contact/contact.html in my template, but in the new pages I get:

file://C|Documents and Settings/XXXX/Desktop/Projects/Websites/domain/html/contact/contact.html.

Why is that? Actually it leaves out the domain part so the links dont even work. They appear correctly on the template.

I don't own DW 2004, but I do have DW MX. The links you are seeing are known as "absolute" links (they point directly to their corresponding item). When you save your file, the links should automatically be converted to the kind of links you want (known as "relative" links). So, in other words, the links will automatically change when you save your file.

This is all assuming that you have a "site" set up within Dreamweaver. The reason the absolute links are used to start with, is that Dreamweaver doesn't know what the relative structure of each link will be until you save it. For example, how does Dreamweaver know whether to use "../images" or "../../images" or whatever else? It doesn't. Which is why it uses absolute links to start.

There might also be an option somewhere in the configuration that sets what kind of link to use. I'm not 100% sure on that, though.

I even Save to Remote Server and it still does it. My absolute links work no matter what, locally or on the server. Why cant it just use what I am telling it?

Dang this is getting frustrating.

Weird. You might try surfing the forums at macromedia's site. IIRC, the people there are very helpful.

Think I figured out the problem.

Even though I set it to edit and save the files remotely automatically, I forgot to syncronize my Site. I figured it would automatically sync the template changes as well. I synced and it seems to be working fine now. Whew!
