I sometimes have dreams where my teeth and jaw really hurt, and I have a hard time opening my mouth. Sometimes in these dreams I also have trouble breathing, which would be the case if my mouth was closed, as I have a deviated septum. When I wake up, however, I never experience tooth or jaw pain. Do you think it's likely that I clench or grind my teeth at night but experience no pain after waking?

Also, would a custom-molded hard plastic tray used for whitening work for a night guard? It seems some of them are just trays like this (based on a Google image search), though some are more advanced.

Talk to you dentist about a bite/grind guard. They make them custom fit to your teeth and are way better then a generic shape much more comfortable.

They cost a little but can save your teeth, if you grind, in the long run.

My night guard is awesome. I got it molded at the dentist, and I sleep much better when I wear it.

My whitening tray was also molded by a dentist. I was just wondering if there's more to the night guards than a tray that fits your teeth.

I woud suggest you are grinding your teeth or something similiar. Hence the dreams. My wife does that from time to time. I would see a dentist.

I assumed a 'night guard' was a security officer working the late shift. Makes the thread title much more obscure and interesting...

...frankly I'm disappointed.

Sorry man, that would've been a good thread.
