I have about 10 websites. I need all the normal stuff + ssh access and imap e-mail. I'd like to pay under $150/year.

I don't want it to be slow (like dreamhost). All my sites crawl, and I put trouble tickets in at least once a week.

10 websites for under $150/yr and you want to have shell access.

that is $15/site which comes out to $1.50/mo to host each site.

if you are looking for a budget like that, you really can't be picky in the least.

A server can host more than one domain.

I don't use much bandwidth... my sites total are under 100 megs. This should be fairly easy, and my sites should be served up fast.

Good luck finding your own server for $12.50/month.

EDIT: and one that isn't slow either.

you could get a reseller account on hostgator or something. they are $25/mo which would be $300/year, but they are quick and reliable. i had em for quite some time.

might wanna check webhostingtalk before signing up with site5. If you weren't satisfied with Dreamhost, Site5 won't be any better (if not worse).

i'm on my 2nd year with them and like i said, not a single problem. i've had questions about things and i most always get a response back in under an hour.

if you go to webhostingtalk, you'll see the same thing about every host, not just site5 or dreamhost. webhostingtalk is worthless.

Shared hosting services often allow one to have multiple domains at no additional cost. It's not as if it really costs the host anything more.

How much disk space/bandwidth are you currently USING?

Ross,

I've decided to go with HostGator. They have a reseller plan that provides Cpanel, and I host a few customers websites. I'll be hosting a few more customers soon so it'll be worth it. Plus, Hostgator will invoice then, so I don't have to worry about it.

BTW, my bandwidth usage total is under 1 GB per month. But that's likely to rise dramatically once I'm done development on 2 of my sites + get those other customers on my hosting.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I've got a single site using MySQL/PHP currently on DreamHost, which now that I'm actually paying attention to the site more am noticing it's slow and/or down a rather lot.

Bandwidth: For May I transferred 7.03 GB, and 6.60 GB in April - so some pretty steady growth. Something around 100 GB would be nice.
Disk space: I don't need a large amount of diskspace; I doubt I'm using even 250MB right now. Maybe 5 GB?
Cost: I'd like to stay under $75 a year.
Primary Concern: Speed and reliability. No more downtime or timeouts for my visitors!

Anyone got anything? :)

No reliable shared host will give you 100GB/month for your budget. Up it to at least $100-$130 a year.

Pretty much every webhost on this list is willing to offer it. :p

The irony of this is that I work for a webhosting company and we're among the world's top ten most reliable... But I can't host here because I like to keep my private work private, and we don't offer SSH access. :p

The key word is reliable. You get what you pay for.
