It's coming soon! :D

Any previews of this? How you pay to connect to seganet to play other DCers?

Thanks!

BTW, I am ordering Dreamcast soon, probably this weekend (I have a lot to do this week so I don't want to get too distracted). Fvck PS2...for now. :) Maybe I'll get it next autumn when Metal Gear Solid2 is out.

Did i hear an echo? Ive said that a bazillion times :p

About the broadband adapter, you will take out the analog modem that is in the back of your DREAMCAST, and simply plug it in. Then insert a Cat 5 Cable, input the basic networking info, and youre off to the racers.

Oh, and THERE IS NO COST FOR SEGANET. WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! After you get that adapter, you will have low ping no lag free SegaNet Gaming. Sweet, eh?

$60???? BULL!!!! I don't have $60. I was expecting it to be something like $20, like a standard NIC. Sure, they probably have to include some extra stuff to make it work with the DC, but shouldn't Sega have thought of that ahead of time and included most of the stuff to make the DC compatible with an ethernet adapter. Oh well, I'm disappointed though, that means I'll have to stick to my PC for online gaming. Not that I'm complaining, Counterstrike is enough for me :D

Seph, better late than never, right? ;)

No fee for seganet?! BOO YA!

By the way...uhh...I will need either another cable modem or I will have to network my house, because my computer is clear across the house from the den. :(

I really don't think that having an electrician run Cat5 cable from my computer room to my den for $100+ is exactly going to go over well with my parents either. I guess I could just....uhhh...wtf could I do?

Get a splitter for my cable in the den, hook the cable up to it and then when I wanna game online with my DC just bring the cable modem downstairs?

Does a splitter degrade the quality of the line much (for both cable TV and the 'net. This will most likely/hopefully be connected to a Sony Wega.).

Thanks!

InterAct or MadCatz or some company like that will most likely release one as well that will be considerably cheaper.

stoner...lol, instead it should say...

Pre-Ordering a product is the best way to ensure that we get to play with your money for awhile before we ship your product.

Zippy, run the cable yourself. That's what I did a couple months ago and I only left 4 gaping holes in my wall. Actually it turned out well, I have my whole house networked, and I did it all myself. Not too bad considering I'd never done anything like that before.

Unfortunately NBA2k1 doesn't work with the LAN adapter so I'm selling it . I got NBA2k1 for the sole reason of online play.

Unfortunatly, games that were coded for the modem don't support the broadband adapter. I think most, if not all multiplayer games coming out now will have code for the ethernet.

It's frustrating that the Dreamcast has so many cool gadgets (VGA adapter, broadband adapter) that don't work with every game :(

$60???? BULL!!!!

That's how much a high quality NIC will run you. Sega used a top quality 3com modem for Dreamcast...I would imagine they're using a top quality, likely 3com NIC for it too. Plus consider that it has to be custom made.

koni, nope, it isn't. The computer is upstairs, the TV is downstairs.

Any links with step by step procedures on how to run cabling through the walls? If I can show my parents how easy it is, I might have a chance.

Thanks!

I thought Sega promised the ethernet adapter would work with all games.

Here's what you do...find a closet or somewhere hidden near your computer, and then go downstairs and figure out where the floor of that closet or crawlspace or whatever hits the ceiling of the bottom level. If it's somewhere unobtrusive, just get a really long drillbit and drill a big hole. Then if it's right near your TV, no problem. If it's not...unless you want to run it across the top of the walls and paint it the color of the wall (or the trim, rather) you can just run it across the ground.

Even better...if you have a basement that's pretty unfinished you can drop the cable to the basement from your computer, drag it until it's right under where the TV is and drill it up.

I was just going to say "drill a hole in the floor/ceiling" but Koni had to be all PROFESSIONAL about it... :)

Hmmm....1/2 of my basement is pretty finished and that is the half that this room is above (2 floors above).

Is it possible for me to put it into the wall, run it down to where the floor is and running it down the hall (under the floor) then when I hit the farthest wall, run it down from there? That is how it is to get to the den from this room.

Here is an ASCII view of the second floor of my house from above...

[*C*][*M*]-[*P*]
========[---]
[*S*][B*]|^|[B-]

C=computer room
M=my room
S=sister's room
B=bathroom
^=lil nook w/ laundry shoot
"="= hallway

I exaggerated my parents room...the upstairs isn't a perfect rectangle.

The den is directly beneath my parents bedroom...think it's doable to run it in all those different directions?

Although seriously, you can't just go drilling holes in your celings wherever you want. You hit something electric your dead, water your wet. Just be sure there isnt anything below you when you drill.

Okay...now post the same thing of your 1st floor, and your basement. Then post a cutout view (from the side). Then maybe we can tell you where to drill. :)

I think the only reason sega made some of their games incompatible with the LAN adapter is they want people to pay for seganet. But there are other cool games that will work with it.

You don't have to pay for SegaNet so long as you have your own ISP...be it BroadBand or POTS.

I know where to drill, it doesn't take a rocket scientist. ;) I just want to know how difficult it is to run it that far and how to run it accurately? Where can I get one of those nifty runner thingies? ;)

Belkin 250ft...how is this?
