Dreamcast and Win2K...

Perhaps this is a bizzare question, but here we go:

I have Win2K Professional installed on my PC. I just installed DSL in my computer, and it still has a 56K modem. I have a Dreamcast with a 56K modem.

I've heard it done before, but how do I setup Win2K so that I can dial my Dreamcast into it for internet/gameplay access? I'm not expecting broadband level pings, but I do expect a rock solid 56K connection :)

I'm pretty positive that that can't be done.

A broadband adapter will be out in January that'll let you hook it up to your DSL connection though.

mindris, that's not a bizzare question at all. What you want to do is let your Win2K machine accept dial-in network connections. I know that RAS(Remote Access Services) was the way that you would do that using NT 4.0. Here is how I think you would do that using Win2K. You would go to the Control Panel and double click Network and Dial-up Connections. Double click Make New Connection. After you click Next, pick the Accept incoming connections choice. The wizard will guide you through setting up that dial-in network connection.

Checking the event log, RAS keeps failing to start, and I should reset the computer to restore the missing file, again, and again...

Looks like editing the networking sections registry to get my DSL logon client working under Win2K did a bit more harm than expected (brute force reg deletions of long missing ethernet cards, lan connections, etc). The instructions for the logon client was quite specific about how to work around DSL logging on but not routing traffic to my LAN. Reinsall Win2K completely from scratch. I didn't want to do that :)

I'll see if I can find my misplaced install disc tonight...For science!

Actually, some guy did it much different. I wish I had the URL. He connected teh 'cast directly to his modem.

Wow. The power of the internet. I had to go through some strange Dreamcast ISO site's message board. Within a few minutes, found this:

http://win2000tips.home.att.net/w2kdreamcast.htm

I'll try it out. On an initial look at it, "Routing and Remote Access" mentioned in the text and "Remote Access Services" seem almost equivalent.
