Drawing Cartoons in Inkscape

Any tips for a newb? I can draw on paper but when I do it with my wacom graphire 4,
i dont get the same smooth lines.

i used the calligraphy tools as mentioned in some tutorials. And simplified the lines, but
i don't like the result.

Any experts here?

This is just a hobby and so I don't want to buy expensive software.

Any tips are appreciated.
