Drawing a blank, trying to remember which fantasy novel this was....

Anyone know this one? Im drawing a blank. When traveling some people could do magic to fold the ground under their feet, so that each step took them further.

Is that the one with the Castle Timeless?

The Changing Land?

Dont think so... I read this years ago.

This kid starts out as living in a castle as a servant or something, and the lord has him read some stories to him because he a has a good voice, and they are going to neuter him to keep his voice but then some guy comes and takes him away and that guy can fold the ground, so they travel faster,

thats all i can remember

wrinkle in time?

that's what i thought of...but they never described it as folding the ground. they did say it was similar to folding a 1 dimentional string so you could go from one end to the other instantly, but in 3 dimentions.

in Event Horizon, they had similar technology that could fold space for long distance travel 🙂

im sure that this book doesn't send people to hell and experience their worst fears while the dude from Jurassic Park tears his own eyes out.

well you don't need eyes where we're going.

A similar concept was used in Roger Zelazny's Nine Princes In Amber series. They were able to mentally change the landscape until it became their destination. Very good series BTW.

No ones gotten it yet, and I cant remember it, bummer

It is NOT a wrinkle in time, it is a fantasy novel involving magic

Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobbs? I've read my fair share of fantasy novels and I recall the road folding thing. Thought maybe it was this book...
