"draw faster software sprites"... what does that do in Counter Strike?

i was looking around at some video options within counter strike, and i notices this option is unselected. i'm just wondering what this option does if it were enabled. anyone ideas?

I don't think it does anything anymore. I believe its something left over from the early half life days when some computers couldn't handle the graphics that Half Life has to offer. I believe that newer drivers have effictively made the option obsolete, although this is just a guess.
