Drastic reduction in temps!!!

Ok, so I switch from my previous Enermax case (you know those ones with the side window and neon light) into a new Antec Sonata. I'm wasn't expecting any sort of improvement cooling wise, I actually thought it would get worse. It turns out with the one 120mm fan suckin air out back runnin at 12 volts, I'm gettin much reduced temps.

Previous setup
1 Panaflo 80mm intake, 2 Panaflo 80 mm exhausts.
Case Temp: 35 to 40
CPU Temp: 50 - 70 C
(note these temps are high due to Abit's screwy temp. sensors).

New Setup
Stock Antec 120mm fan runnin at 12 volts
Case temp: 29-32 C
CPU Temp: 48-53 C

i'm impressed!

yup thats the exact same case I was using. I'm running a P4 2.4 @ 3 GHZ, a GF4 ti 4200 cooled via a ZM80 Heatpipe, 40 gb hdd, audigy2, 512 ram.

whats your system tho. I have a enermax case too

i have good temps like your antec but i have a fan in every slot

I have that same exact case. I have a fan for every mount in that case and my temps still suck. I modified the rear exhaust fans, drilled out the holes a little larger to allow more air flow seems to have dropped a couple of degrees. Now I just need to modify the front so more air can be brought into the case, the 120mm intake fan is barely moving 30cfm because of the air restriction of that design.

Yeah I switched from some generic crap case to the Antec 1000SMG
I love this case

dropped my cpu temp from ~70 C to ~40 C (Also replaced the AMD HSF with a SLK-800A + panaflo)
my case temp went from ~54 C to ~29 C.
I have 2 80 mm fans blowing in from the front, 1 80mm fan blowing in on the side, the 2 80 mm fans blowing out from the back.

I saw a 20c drop just upgrading my stock HSF to a Volcano 11+ and adding a 120mm fan blowing into the case. I already have 4 80mm fans blowing OUT (2 rear, one top, one side).

EDIT: And I have that same Enermax case.

i just noticed that there is an additional 120mm fan mount in the front behind the drive cage. I think i'm gonna experiment and put another 120mm fan there. The only thing is there is so little space. I'm thinkin about 5 volting both the intake and exhaust fan, 7 volting my PSU fan, and running my CPU fan at 12 volts. That should keep everything nice and cool.

yea those enermax holes are just begging to be sliced out.

my board temp right now is only 5 degrees F over ambient🙂 thats like nothing hehe. and my pos 5 year old case is lined with 1" acoustic foam. its just a matter of air flow.

pic of the madness

blue side filter is hiding 1 92mm stealth vantec, 1 80mm stealth vantec 1 80mm enermax or something fan🙂 front is hiding a 92mm. only grills are metal wire ones for low obstruction. the m/b and cpu just get blasted with fresh air endlessly🙂

Just remember that temps will vary from place to place easily. I went from San Diego to Bakersfield and my temps are constantly 5c higher.
