Dramatic temp drop only using fans!

just wanted to share my experience with you guys

What I had:
1 80mm intake fan
2 80mm exhaust fan
60mm Sunon cpu fan

Under full load my motherboard temp would rise to 38 C and my cpu temp would hit 57 C.

What I added
replaced the three generic 80mm fans with Sunon fans pushing 42.5 CFM each
cut two blowholes on the top of my case and added 2 more 80mm Sunon fans
cut two holes in the side panel of my case and added 2 92mm Sunon fans each pushing in 51 CFM
replaced Sunon cpu fan with 60mm Delta Black Label fan pushing 38 CFM

total air movement: 352.5 CFM

Now after an hour of running Unreal Tournament and encoding DivX at the same time my motherboard temp hits 29 C at the absolute max (only 4 C above room temp) and my cpu temp never gets above 46 C.

I could have bought another 256MB of RAM with the money I spent on the upgrade, but I feel the investment was well worth it. Plus, the modifications were fun and my case now has that custom look with the added holes and fans. Unfortunately, now I might have to start wearing earplugs when I go to sleep. 🙂

I just used a regular hand held drill with a 3 inch hole saw for the top blowholes and a 3.5 inch hole saw for the side holes. Then I just used a grinding bit to smooth down the edges.

Yeah, it is pretty loud but that's alright.....I'll get used to it. Also, the two top blowhole fans are pretty strong, so if I ever get sweaty palms during a frag session I can just reach over and dry them; just like at the bowling alley. 🙂

lol! i too modded my case, placed a 120 mm fan intake and a 80 mm outake. modding is pretty fun but it gets annoying to keep removing you hardware everytime you work on your case. i haven't modded in a year or so. peace out.
