The title does not support enough characters but here is what happened:

Rob Florence writes a piece on how the standards of game journalists is dropping rapidly in this piece:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-10-24-lost-humanity-18-a-table-of-doritos

But one person got so butt hurt that she complains to Eurogamer to delete the paragraph in which she is mentioned, and EG complies with her request. A screen grab of the deleted paragraph:

After this.. I am not so sure but Rob is not working for EG at the moment. His tweet: https://twitter.com/robertflorence/status/261432457017057280 says this is his last article for EG.

Cynical Brit's comment on this whole thing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2keHyS_Ooo

I pretty much agree to what he says.. which is that traditional forms of journalism is beyond salvageable and they are getting desperate by the hour.

There are little standards in journalism. They like to pretend there are, but they are almost all biased. Some just pretend they aren't.

That image will be the subject of many captions, thus entering the pantheon of internet legend.

Some of these aren't really 'journalists', they are 'buzzers'. This is how the social media game works currently and I thought everybody knows about it already.

If anything Geoff Keighley is the Ryan Seacrest of videogaming. I don't think I've ever though of him as anymore than a host on the various "shows", and what have you.

Its pretty much a fact of life that people can make a living being a shill. Its a shame that with the gaming industry being geared towards children and teenagers for the most part that the game publishers don't keep it at least semi honest. Previews, reviews, exclusivity agreements, kickbacks, you can never be sure if what you are reading is honest opinion or motivated otherwise.

When I am looking for reviews for a game, the first place I go is metacritic (to look at user scores, not critic scores), then eurogamer, then (if available) zeropunctuation. Eurogamer hardly ever gives out 10's and not even that many 9's compared to a lot of other sites, and I hope they continue that tradition. We don't need a bunch of would-be journalists inflating grades in the hopes they'll curry favor with companies. I'm ok with sponsorship if it doesn't interfere with the substance.

Btw despite the $billions in revenue, gaming still isn't treated as seriously as, say, film reviews. The people covering gaming tend to be young and not, say, of Roger Ebert's vintage. They are inexperienced youths covering a disrespected field. It's a race to the bottom....

You've got to be suspicious of everybody even bloggers. They can be motivated by kickbacks or insider deals. Can't even trust a random kid because you've always got some fan boys reviewing something they haven't even played.

Best bet is to find a reviewer that has the same likes as you and go from there.

No no no no no.

RockPaperShotgun should be your first stop for legitimate, non-biased PC games journalism that's worth a damn. Giant Bomb for everything else.

And why would you use Zero Punctuation to gauge the quality of a game? It's a comedy piece, not a review piece.

Because Yahtzee isn't afraid to mention all the flaws a game has. Sure, he does it in a comedic way but so does John Stewart. It doesn't mean the facts are there. The only real bias they have is they spin it into something funny. They don't distort or leave out things.

I realized a long time ago reviewers have always been for sale. I stick to reviews from friends, because I know they gain nothing from a game doing well. That, and I know their biases.

This.

But in the end, if you want a buyer's guide, you simply should read a lot of reviews and not just look at the score. Better yet, re-read the reviews after you've played the game to see which one of these many reviewers has similar taste to your own.

Giantbomb and RPS are the only places I go to now. I check out Gamespot for videos from time to time. I hardly ever read reviews anymore. I've always found it easy to know by looking at screenshots and gameplay footage if I will like a game or not. I haven't purchased a game that I regretted in years.
